Viking Soccer go Back-to-Back-to-Back

Tuesday, March 29th the Lanier Vikings soccer team qualified for playoffs for the third consecutive year with their 5-2 win over LBJ. The Vikings began the game with an early deficit. They quickly recovered and scored the equalizer to make it 1-1 with a goal from Luis Lopez. Minutes later, the Vikings went on to score again with a goal from Josue Montalvan (assist Lopez). The Vikings eventually got a third goal when Mauricio Ulloa crossed the ball, and Rodrigo Suarez was there to tap it in. This made it 3-1 at the end of the half. The Vikings continued their dominance at the start of the second half with a beautiful team goal scored once again by Rodrigo. LBJ’s persistence led to them getting another goal via freekick making it 4-2. This, however, did not faze the Vikings. They rounded up their victory with another goal scored by hattrick hero Rodrigo.

Then the playoffs came. According to Coach Hellums, “The players put on a performance that says so much about their character and how much it means to us to represent the community at Lanier. Boys Soccer won the first soccer playoff win at Lanier since 2011 by a lopsided 4-0 score on the 29th of March against SA Memorial at Nelson Field. These boys have the chance to make school history by advancing to the Regional Quarterfinals for the first time.”
