10 Tips To Use When Starting FAFSA

  1. The FAFSA is the form required at all colleges that accept and award  financial aid.
  2. It’s the form that provides your college financial aid officers with the information they need to go ahead and create your financial aid package.
  3. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  4. It utilizes a July to June calendar. In other, we are in middle of the 2016-2017 and New Year’s Day is January 1 and it’s also when when we move to the 2017-2018.
  5. The FAFSA helps determine which students receive $1550 billion in federal aid.
  6. The majority of colleges also use the FAFSA to determine who qualifies for their own institutional need-based aid.
  7. When starting your FAFSA, having you have your income tax return available generally helps the process go faster. 
  8. Do not pay anyone to fill the form out for  you to “maximize your aid potential.” 
  9. The FAFSA is based on your current household income. Be sure to provide current and factual information or there can severe consequences.
