On Thursday October 13th, the practicum level of Lanier’s Audio/Video Production went to the Austin Film Fest. All 10 students, along with Tara Bordeaux, the practicum teacher, all got free Conference passes. .
The first panel was called “Fresh off the Set: First Time Directors.” The moderator was veteran filmmaker Dennis Bishop, and panelists were actress and producer Etta Devine, her partner actor Gabriel Diani, writer and director Jason Headley, writer and producer Oren Uziel, and writer, director, and editor, Nicholas Zafonte. The panelists shared their experiences and knowledge about being on live sets, even though they had no film school experience.
The second panel was “Script to Screen: The Revenant”, with moderator Christopher Boone and panelist Mark L. Smith, the writer of “The Revenant.” During this panel discussion, the audience saw clips from “The Revenant.” Smith broke down how he wrote the entire film and how actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Alejandro Gonzales helped him.
“I enjoyed going to the Austin Film Fest because it teaches me on how to make it in the film industry with no film school experience,” said student Eric Tejeda.
